Reviews

  1. My 6 year old is train mad and when he unwrapped this on his birthday he was positively exploding with excitement. An expensive set, but you get a lot things in it, and the Engine and wagons surprised me with their size. Only 2 words of caution though:

The train is a battery monster - 6 AAAs for the engine and 4 more for the remote and an extended session will murder the batteries at quite a rate. Rechargeable batteries and a charger are a must to save you from more excessive wallet surgery later on. I event went for enough rechargeable batteries for two complete sets for the engine to save downtime.

The second problem is that once into it, the supplied oval of track will not be enough for the user, so more will no doubt be demanded (cue further wallet surgery).

All in all though: expensive but will keep short chaps (and chapettes) happy for a long time. As long as you have the battery stockpile.
  2. This was a Christmas present for my 4YO. The plan to be a do it with dad present. He was overjoyed and had asked for this despite it not strictly being suitable for his age. The building was all him. The only thing dad was needed for was battery insertion and connecting the controller.

This has remained part of the furnishings in our house (with dozens of added track sets) it circumnavigates our lounge and dining room and is played with daily

Many of the other lego sets he has built have joined our Lego city. The fact this set has a working crane carriage really enhances the play ability as does the fork lift and van which forms part of the set

Overall with dozens of sets over all the kids, this is one of the very best and I see it having real longevity in keeping them engaged
  3. Great set, lots of features and pieces, the extra track pieces mean my daughter and I now have a larger layout. My only complain is our engine seems a little sluggish to get going compared to the older "power functions" trains. I don't know if it's the motor or the Bluetooth connection. I'm thinking of getting another power function motor to fix the issue, but otherwise it's a fantastic set.
