  1. as stated here - this product is being sold as made by Mattel but the one delivered today most certainly was not. From reading the reviews it seems that some are getting the real deal but this set was cheap cheap cheap. And nasty. And cheap. And as such it is being sold fraudulently. Which is illegal. Now begins the hassle of sending it back and retrieving full expenses. Please be careful you too will not be ripped off
  2. Quick delivery from Amazon as usual, and secure and sturdy packaging.

I normally buy a new scrabble set ever couple of years, mainly because the printing on the letter tiles starts to fade. That, and the fact that the board starts to fall apart along the length of the spine, as repeated opening and closing of the board eventually takes its toll on the cardboard. I play a lot of Scrabble, so considering the amount of pleasure I get from the set, the price is really very reasonable.

This latest version of the set seems to be a minor upgrade on the previous ones. The tiles are marginally thicker and slightly chunkier all round, without any real weight penalty, so this is a welcome improvement. The quality of the printing on these tiles also seems to have improved. Of course, it's impossible to tell at this early stage if the printing will wear off any quicker or not; only time will tell. The board, cloth bag and tile racks are all pretty much the same as before, so no real change there.

But it's really worth saying how much pleasure this set can bring, considering the trivial asking price. It's a steal.

But there is certainly a market out there for a mid-priced better-made Scrabble set. Someone should take note of this. It would be a sure-fire best seller.

I hope this brief review is useful.
